"I live by the rule' learn to do right! Seek justice, encourage the oppressed. Defend the cause of the fatherless, plead the case of the widow. Isaiah 1:17' As a plaintiff's lawyer, I serve and represent families and victims that have been injured by the negligence of others and the irresponsible behavior of big business. I ardently and unabashedly strive to hold wrongdoers accountable, accepting nothing less than full justice for each one of my clients."
Jacqueline A. Hughes approaches each of her cases with discipline and focus; as a result, she has obtained record settlements on behalf of her clients in diverse areas of the law, including: mass toxic tort litigation, wrongful death cases, automobile collisions, premises liability, construction negligence and medical negligence. Among the highlights of her career - and less than two years after graduating from law school - Jacqueline obtained a $6.25 million settlement on behalf of her clients in a mass toxic tort case in Cook County. From there she has gone on to a career as a highly committed trial lawyer, marked by consistent representation of families and victims who have suffered catastrophic personal injury or loss but find it hard to get access to the court system.
In a premises liability case, Jacqueline represented a Mexican immigrant who sustained a knee injury after slipping on a patch of ice created by a faulty gutter that a landlord had repeatedly failed to repair despite numerous prior warnings. Following depositions, the Defendant paid $377,000 to avoid a trial. In one of the most catastrophic vehicle collisions in Illinois history, Jacqueline worked with a principal partner to obtain a landmark settlement for the minor of a young mother who died in the crash. The settlement provided the 5-year old daughter guaranteed payments in excess of 19 million dollars, and in excess of 40 million dollars if she lives a normal life expectancy.
Jacqueline is a graduate of Loyola University of Chicago and received her J.D. from the John Marshall Law School. She is a member of the Illinois Trial Lawyers of America, and the Chicago and McHenry Bar Associations. She also serves as a Cook County Arbitrator in Chicago municipal cases. Being fluent in Spanish, Jacqueline also finds great satisfaction in helping to serve the Hispanic community; communicating with clients in Spanish equips her to better advance their cases.
